Oushad: Medicinal Plants Cultivation
Reviving Ayurveda: Empowering Farmers through Medicinal Plants Cultivation
At Totem Resource Centre, we have embarked on a groundbreaking project to cultivate medicinal plants and herbs on a commercial scale, aiming to support both the Ayurveda industry and our dedicated farmers. Through this initiative, we are forging buyback agreements with leading Ayurveda drugs manufacturing companies, ensuring a secure market for the produce and offering invaluable support to farmers associated with our society.
Currently, many Ayurveda manufacturing companies in Kerala rely on raw materials sourced mainly from North India, leading to scarcity and logistical challenges. With our robust network of 20 farmers in each of the Wayanad and Palakkad villages, we are poised to transform this landscape. Through comprehensive training in medicinal cultivation and marketing processes, our farmers are well-equipped to contribute quality raw drugs in substantial quantities, revolutionizing the Ayurvedic drug production.
Diversifying our cultivation, our farmers are nurturing a range of essential medicinal plant varieties, including Asparagus racemosus (shathavari), Plumbago Indica (koduveli), Justicia Adathoda (Adalodakam), Kaempferia Galanga (kacholam), Sida Alnifolia (kurunthotti), Tragia Involucrata (kodithuva), and Trichosanthes Cucumerina (kattupadavalam). These precious herbs are vital ingredients for major Ayurvedic medicines, bringing immense value to the industry and promoting holistic well-being. In the past, farmers of medicinal plants often struggled with low prices for their produce.
However, with Totem Resource Centre, they now have the opportunity to become esteemed members of our society and secure fair prices for their efforts. This empowerment ensures sustainable livelihoods and fosters a sense of pride in contributing to the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda.Through this initiative, we envision a renaissance in Ayurveda, as farmers and manufacturers collaborate harmoniously, ensuring a consistent and abundant supply of high-quality raw materials.
Together, we are on a mission to revitalize Ayurveda, preserving its heritage while embracing innovation, sustainability, and the well-being of all involved.
